Good Stress vs Bad Stress
Recognizing the difference between good and bad stress is essential for maintaining mental and physical health. While good stress can be motivating and helpful in small doses, bad stress can have a negative impact on your well-being if left unmanaged.
Good Stress
- Motivates you to complete tasks and meet goals.
- Improves performance and productivity under pressure.
- Helps you grow and adapt by pushing you out of your comfort zone.
- Increases focus and alertness during challenges (like exams or presentations).
- Encourages problem-solving when faced with challenges.
Bad Stress
- Overwhelms you, leading to burnout or exhaustion.
- Decreases performance and focus due to excessive pressure.
- Causes anxiety and persistent worry, affecting your well-being.
- Impairs your decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
- Affects physical health, causing headaches, fatigue, or sleep problems.
By identifying when stress is becoming overwhelming, you can take steps to cope, such as taking breaks, practicing mindfulness, or seeking support. Recognizing stress early allows you to harness the positive effects while protecting yourself from the harmful consequences of prolonged distress. Being aware of how stress affects you empowers you to manage it effectively, improving both your productivity and overall quality of life.
Staying Organized
Using a planner and organizational skills are crucial for reducing stress and staying on top of daily tasks. When you break down tasks, prioritize them, and manage your time effectively, you can avoid the feeling of being overwhelmed that comes from feeling scattered or behind. A well-organized approach helps you stay focused, meet deadlines, and create a sense of accomplishment, which boosts confidence and productivity
Staying Busy
Staying busy and engaging in activities is essential for maintaining good mental health. Keeping yourself occupied with productive tasks, such as schoolwork, exercise, or personal projects, helps keep your mind focused and reduces the likelihood of negative thoughts or stress taking over. In addition, having hobbies offers an invaluable outlet for creativity and relaxation.
Breathing Exercises for Help with Anxiety
Breathing exercises are powerful tools for managing anxiety because they can be done anytime, anywhere, and require no special equipment. By focusing on your breath, you can activate your body’s natural relaxation response, slowing your heart rate, reducing muscle tension, and calming racing thoughts.
Self-Accountability
Effective Communication Tips for Resolving Conflict
Clear and respectful communication is essential for resolving conflicts in a healthy way. By actively listening, expressing your thoughts calmly, and staying open-minded, you can find common ground and work toward a solution. Effective communication helps prevent misunderstandings and ensures that everyone feels heard and respected.
CrimeStoppers
To help maintain a safe and productive environment for learning in our schools, STPPS has established a partnership with the CrimeStoppers organization. The partnership provides an additional security measure that encourages students, parents, and others to report information about potential or actual criminal activity at school. The CrimeStoppers program allows us to utilize a reporting system called the Safe School Hotline in all our junior high and high schools.
The local CrimeStoppers organization encourages citizens to help solve and prevent crime through anonymous calls to a special telephone number maintained by the organization. The information is forwarded to appropriate law enforcement agencies and a special fund is available to pay a reward for tips that lead to an arrest. The Safe School Hotline operates in the same way to help solve crimes and prevent potential safety concerns on and/or around school campuses, school buses, and school events. The CrimeStoppers Safe School Hotline system protects the caller’s identity by assigning a code number to each caller.
The Safe School Hotline number is 1-877-903-7867. Students and parents who have information about a serious or potentially serious school safety concern are urged to call the school principal or the CrimeStoppers Safe School Hotline.
Drill Information
Multiple emergency drill plans are in place and will be practiced annually in coordination with local law enforcement and emergency personnel to ensure student safety. It’s unlikely the drills will need to be used, but practicing helps everyone know what to do just in case.
Types of Drills:
- Evacuate
- Generally results from a fire (the fire alarm will likely sound).
- Shelter in Place
- Generally results from weather.
- Lock Down
- Results from situations where it’s safest for everyone to remain inside the building.
