Fine Arts Course Descriptions
Art I- 1 year elective
Grades 9, 10, 11, 12
This course is an introduction to the foundations of drawing, painting, and mixed-media design.
Art II- 1 year elective
Grades 9, 10, 11, 12, Prerequisite: Art I
This course provides and intermediate level of study based on the instruction of drawing painting, and mixed-media art.
Art III - IV (AP) - 1 year elective
Grades 9, 10, 11, 12, Prerequisite: Each of the following sections requires that the student submit a portfolio of 10 pieces of art and a letter of intent to the art teacher.
Fine Arts Survey- 1 year elective
Grades 9, 10, 11, 12
Fine Arts Survey will develop and reinforce students’ knowledge and appreciation of Fine Arts. Students will study two semesters of Music, Dance, Theatre, Visual Arts. During the course students will explore the relationship between formal aspects of the arts along with the political and social history of various cultures.
Beginning Choir- 1 year elective
Grades 9, 10, 11, 12
Designed for those students who have a desire to read music and sing in a choral setting. It is also designed as a preparation for those students desiring future admittance into other choirs. Rehearsals and performances outside of school hours are required.
Intermediate/Advanced Choir- 1 semester elective
Grades 10, 11, 12
Auditions are required for this course where students read a vocal part while singing harmony in choral music. Beginning Choir is a pre-requisite for the course unless approved by instructor. Rehearsals and performances outside of school hours are required.
Beginning Band- 1 semester elective
Grades 9, 10, 11, 12
Basic course designed for those students who desire to read music and play a band instrument. This class is designed as a preparation for those students desiring future admittance into other bands. There are no outside rehearsals and performances. School-owned instruments are available to students on a first come, first served basis.
Advanced Band- 1 semester elective
Grades 9, 10, 11, 12
Students read music and perform with both the marching and concert bands. School-owned instruments are available to students on a first come, first served basis. (Can satisfy PE II and Art credit)
Studio Piano I- 1 year elective
Grades 9, 10, 11, 12
This is a course of piano instruction which is designed for the student who is an actual beginner at the keyboard and has a limited knowledge of music.
Studio Piano II- 1 year elective
Grades 10, 11, 12, Prerequisite: Studio Piano I
This is a course of piano instruction that continues to build on the skills and knowledge gained from Piano I.
Theater- 1 year elective
Grades 9, 10, 11, 12
This course is an introduction to theatre class that teaches the basics of theatrical productions.
Theater Design - 1 year elective
Grades 9, 10, 11, 12
This course is designed for students interested in the art of planning and building, as well as the coordination of all the elements necessary to create the setting of a theatrical production. The students will learn how to design, construct, light, prop, and sound a show. Work with power tools and electricity is required.
