INSTRUCTIONAL GOALS            

This course is aligned with the Louisiana and National Foreign Language Content Standards. The five goal areas of Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, and Communities are supported through development of vocabulary, grammar, and cultural awareness.

At the end of this course, you will

• Know appropriate forms of address and greetings, French names and nicknames, favorite pastimes of French speaking young people, the importance of the extended family, café and restaurant foods
• Be able to recognize cognates, name countries and capitals, count from zero to 100, tell time, talk about the weather, exchange greetings, introduce yourself and others, describe personality traits, describe people, places and things, talk about school, after school activities and school supplies, express likes and dislikes, discuss everyday and weekend activities, identify family members, and describe how people feel
• Understand and Use subject pronouns, nouns and articles, gender of nouns, gender of adjectives, possessive adjectives, regular and irregular verb conjugation

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES


General Rules:

Classroom Rules

1. Follow all CHS school rules including but not limited to:
   • Be inside the classroom before the tardy bell rings.
   • Follow the dress code.
   • Wear I.D. properly.
2. Stay awake and alert. Eating, drinking, and chewing gum are distracting and therefore unacceptable.
3. Be courteous and respectful to everyone. 
4. Be attentive to Madame Bernstein.

 

Work Make-up Policy

The school policy for make-up work allows only one day for each day of absence. If a student is absent, he has one week from the day of his absence to complete tests and quizzes. Homework is due the day after he returns to class or an alternate assignment will be given. I will be available for make-up work in the mornings and afternoons by appointment. No make-up tests will be given during class.

 

Emergency Passes

Although the administration discourages allowing students to leave the class for personal reasons, I allow three emergency passes each nine weeks.

Classroom Discipline

Students are in this class to learn and anything that prevents or hinders optimal learning will not be tolerated. The classroom rules are posted and all students are aware of my expectations.

Consequences for not following rules and teacher instruction:

1.     warning, conference, redirection

2.     Personal Detention with the teacher

3.     phone call to parent/guardian and note to coach or team sponsor

4.     discipline referral to office

In extreme instances, the student will be sent immediately to the Disciplinarian.

I will make every effort to work personally with the student if there is a problem, but I will not hesitate to elicit parent/guardian help and support.

Exam                                 20%

Class work includes oral and written work as well as active participation. It is recommended that students review what was covered in class each evening on their own, even if no assignment is made.

 

Grading Scale:

A  92  -  100

B  83  -  91

C  74  -  82

D  65  -  73

F  below 65
