Fall Student Achievements

Swamp for Sale

Students from the CHS Talented Theatre Program performed for the National Federation of Urban and Suburban School Districts Annual Conference which is being held in Louisiana this year. They performed the short play Swamp For Sale, which was written and directed by CHS Theatre Teacher Gary Mendoza.

Wild Things Youth Art Winners

Congratulations to Ms. Hallock's and Ms. Hickman's art students for their outstanding achievements in this year's Wild Things Youth Art Contest.  The following students earned awards for their artwork depicting Louisiana wildlife:

Brittney Scioneaux, Hanna Pogue, Elizabeth Kane, Katie Haupt, Caleb McLane, Ashleigh Chatman, Kinley Glass, Jane Nelson, and Ariyana Marcel!

Congratulations to Ms. Hickman's art students who placed at this weekend's Fair Poster Contest at the St. Tammany Parish Fair. 3rd Place went to Michael Cargo, 2nd Place went to Charlotte Toucey, and 1st Place was awarded to Kinley Glass. All 3 posters will advance to the state level.

Their art will be on display at the Big Branch Wildlife Refuge in Lacombe until the end of October.

In addition, congratulations to Ms. Hallock's talented art students for their achievements in the Wildfowl Student Art Competition. 2nd place was awarded to Kim Rubio. Honorable Mention awards were earned by Consuelo Garcia, Cassidee Chatellier, and Brittney Scioneaux. Ms. Hallock was awarded 3rd place in the professional fine arts category.

Fair Booth 1st Place

Covington high earned 1st place in this year's fair booth exhibit. Ms. Hickman's art students would like to thank all the people who helped make this year's display a success. The booth will be on display in the educational exhibits building today through Sunday.

Braydon at MSU

Braydon had the opportunity to perform with Mississippi State University last night. 271 students were selected from 10 states! We are so proud of him!

Show Animal Feeding Seminar

CHS Agriculture students attend a Show Animal Feeding Seminar. Purina Mills educated the attendees about their line of feed products and their ability to help fit livestock for the show ring. It was held in Folsom and sponsored by Core Feeds.

Talented Music at School Board

Covington High Talented Music students provided entertainment for the Volunteer Appreciation reception at the school board office Thursday night. Recent graduates Gabe, Cody, and Sara showcased their talents with  a variety of songs both instrumental & vocal. Sara sang the National Anthem and read a poem dedicated to all the parent volunteers in attendance.

C13 Summer Video Institute

Sophomores Monique and Renee participated in this summer's Channel 13 Video Institute! St. Tammany students spend a week learning how to make short documentaries with professionals. It was both Monique's and Renee's second time participating.

Spring Student Achievements

Triston Received $5000 Grant

Sophomore Triston put forth all the effort to write a grant through the National FFA. The “Grants for Growing” grant was awarded to the CHS Agriculture Department in the amount of $5000. The funds will be used to build a greenhouse at the CHS Farm. The Ag. Dept. here at CHS appreciates Triston and his hard work! This project will touch the lives of students here at CHS for years to come.

Elizabeth Sings for State

Cedric Bridges brought Elizabeth from the Covington High School Choir to sing the national anthem for the official open of the State Legislature’s 2019 Regular Session yesterday!

Field and Track Special Olympics

Our mild moderate, severe and RNC Classes have been practicing all year for the end of the year Field and Track Special Olympics held at Lakeshore High. They participated in softball throw and/or 50 meter run, walk or wheelchair race. We came away with several First Place ribbons and Second Place ribbons. We are very proud of their sportsmanship and accomplishments, they represented CHS LION PROUD.

Art Collaboration

Six of Covington High's art students have been selected to participate in a special collaboration with New Orleans artist, Brandan "BMike" Odums, in honor of Woman's History Month.

They are: Harmoni Brown, Michael Cargo, Kaitlin Languirand, Amiirah Morman, Sarah Scarlato, and Naomi Vang.

100% ASE Certifications

All of Mr. McCord's Automotive students at Covington High passed their ASE certifications this year! Mr. McCord's students at Fontainebleau, Mandeville, and Lakeshore all passed their certifications as well.

Business Department Certifications

The Advocate released an article about the success the CHS business department has had with certifications. This past fall, over 150 students received their Microsoct Word certification, with three students receiving perfect scores. At the same time, 125 students so far have received Adobe certifications, bringing Covington High's total over 250 since introducing the certification last year! Four students have also received the Adobe Visual Design Specialist certification. Read the full article here!

MOS Perfection

Jordynn, a 9th grader at Covington High School, passed the Microsoft Office Specialist WORD 2013 exam with a perfect score of 1000.  She received  2nd place in the 2018 Microsoft Office Specialist State Championship Fall Qualifier for the state of Louisiana.

Poetry Out Loud

Poetry Out Loud is a National Recitation Contest. Created by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation, Poetry Out Loud is administered in partnership with the State Arts Agencies of all 50 states, the District of Columbia, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. Students compete “in-house” with guest judges to determine who will represent CHS at parish competition. This year’s CHS judges included Cedric Bridges, choral music director at CHS; Rebecca Smith, CHS graduate and former POL winner at Parish as well as State competitor; David Armand, CHS alum, author, and university instructor, and Canese Jarboe, poet and university instructor.  These judges selected the top 3 from CHS who competed at Parish: Ella, Joy, and Elizabeth. Joy (awarded 1st place at Poetry Out Loud Parish level) and Ella (awarded 3rd place at POL Parish level) will advance to State.
