Mrs. Patricia Massoth, who was appointed principal of Covington High School on September 11, 1986, has had contacts with Covington High since her youth. Mrs. Massoth graduated from Covington High as salutatorian, then attended Louisiana State University, where she obtained her masters degree in Education. After her graduation from LSU, Mrs. Massoth began her career as a teacher at Istrouma High school in Baton Rouge, where she taught for three years before moving to Florida State University.

In 1969 Mrs. Massoth returned to Covington High as a Social Studies Teacher and then Librarian from 1972-1974. Then in 1975 she was promoted to Assistant Principal. After eleven years as assistant principal, Mrs. Massoth was appointed to the position of principal. As principal, Mrs. Massoth's goals were to see that all students at Covington High received the very best education, to continue the progress that had been made in the school, and to have more programs for students that were not college bound. Mrs. Massoth would say that she was most proud of her facilitation in the building of the performing arts center at Covington High. She felt that this center contributed to an overall balance for the students. The students now had access to a concentration in the arts and humanities as well as academic, vocational, and physical education programs.

As her first year as principal drew to a close, Mrs. Massoth said, "Working with community support, and excellent administrative staff, an outstanding faculty, and an exceptional student body, has made my first year as principal of Covington High School a gratifying experience."
