Students of the Month
March 2008
|
A committee of teachers recently met to choose two Seniors as the CHS March Students of the Month. Selection is based on scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship and, character. March’s Student of the Month are Elinor Hanby and Frank Lee.
Elinor is a CHS honor student, a member of the National Honor Society, and holds certification in Microsoft Word. In addition, she is a member of the Art Club, HOSA, and the Foreign Language Club. She is active in the Student Government Association serving as Senior Class Representative. Elinor is very involved in the Talented Theatre program and has been seen in several performances here at CHS. She has also performed in local theatre productions. She is active in the community volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, the Red Cross, and Relay for Life.
Frank is also a CHS honor student and member of the National Honor Society. In addition, he is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Next Generation, and Lions About Positive Decisions where he serves as this year’s Treasurer. As a member of LAPD, Frank has participated in several programs at area elementary schools. Frank is also a member of the Covington High varsity football and powerlifting teams. He is an active member of his church’s youth ministry and participated in a Hurricane Katrina restoration project.

February 2008
The faculty has chosen two seniors as Students of the Month for February. Their selection was based upon scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship, and character. The students selected for February are
Lauren Vincent and Mita Lad.
Lauren is a CHS honor student and is a member of the National Honor Society. She was the producer for the CHS DVD yearbook and was chosen as a delegate to Louisiana Girls State. Lauren has received the A+ Attitude award and is a Leading Lion. She is a member of the Foreign Language Club and was an escort for Mr. CHS. She is active in the community serving as a volunteer at the Young Writer’s Camp and the Relay for Life.
Mita is also a CHS honor student. After participating in “Unity Through Understanding” Day, Mita helped form the new Students Taking A New Direction or STAND organization and serves as its Secretary. She is the Vice President of Paw Prints and is active in HOSA, Robotics, and SGA. As a member of ROTC, Mita has served as the Supply Officer and the Executive Officer. She has received the A+ Attitude award and has been a PTSA GEM.

The faculty has chosen two seniors as Students of the Month for January. Their selection was based upon scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship, and character. The students selected for January are Rebecca Galloway (left) and Claire Coudrain (right).
Rebecca is a CHS honor student and a member of the National Honor Society. This year she is serving as NHS President. In addition, Rebecca is a member of the Student Government Association and Foreign Language Club where she serves as Vice President. Rebecca is active in the community volunteering in many ways. She worked in the Katrina Clean-up, her church’s Bible School, and at Camp Dreams in Mobile, Alabama.
Claire is also an honor student and Treasurer of the National Honor Society. She is a member of the Literary Writing Club and the Foreign Language Club. This year, Claire is a senior officer in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and captain of the Varsity Cheerleading Squad. In addition to these activities, Claire is a very active in the CHS Talented Theatre program where she has performed in several productions. Claire was last year’s recipient of the “I Dare You” award.

A committee of teachers recently met to choose two seniors as the CHS December Students of the Month. Selection is based on scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship, and character. December’s Students of the Month are Caitlin Naquin and Ani Sipos.
Caitlin is a CHS honor student and a member of the National Honor Society. She served as her junior class Vice-President and is a member of HOSA and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She is a member of the CHS varsity volleyball team and swim teams. Last year she was runner-up for Elks Teen of the Year. Caitlin represented Covington High at the Hugh O’Brien Leadership Conference and at Louisiana Girl’s State. In addition, Caitlin has worked with Habitat for Humanity and Relay for Life. She traveled to Ireland to serve as a team leader at a young girls’ church camp.
Ani is also a CHS honor student and is a member of the National Honor Society. She is a Talented Theatre student and has been in many Covington High theatrical and musical productions. Last year she played the lead in the musical Cinderella. She also participates each summer in the C.L.A.P.S. program. In addition Ani performs in the community with the Dancescape Company. Ani is an active member of Lions About Positive Decisions and has performed at schools throughout the parish with the PRIDE troupe. Ani also worked with the Hurricane Katrina cleanup.

November 2007

The faculty has chosen two seniors as Students of the Month for November. Their selection was based upon scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship, and character. The students selected for November are Nick Roger and Alyssa Vicari.
Nick is a CHS honor student and was an Elks Teen of the Month last year. He is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is a 4-year member of the Varsity Soccer team. He was named Most Valuable Player each of the last three years. In addition Nick is active in the community with the Covington Youth Soccer Association and the Gold Dragon Martial Arts program.
Alyssa Vicari is also an honor student and a member of the National Honor Society. She is the President of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Senior Class Treasurer. Alyssa is a 4-year member of the Dancin’ Darlins’ and is this year’s captain. In addition she is a member of HOSA, SGA, and the Foreign Language Club. This summer Alyssa represented CHS at Louisiana Girls State. She was chosen as this year’s Homecoming Queen.

A committee of teachers recently met to choose two Seniors as the CHS October Students of the Month. Selection is based on scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship and, character. October’s Student of the Month are Kelly Grimes and Max McClintock.
Kelly is CHS Honor Student. She has been an active leader in her class and is currently serving as Senior Class President. She was chosen to represent CHS at Louisiana’s Girls’ State this past summer and received the A+ Attitude award last year. She is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Student Government Association, and the Foreign Language Club. In addition, Kelly is also a member of both the Varsity Volleyball and Soccer teams. Kelly is also a member of the student Focus Group whose goal is to raise awareness about safe teen driving.
Max is also a CHS Honor Student. He is a member of the National Honor Society and is serving this year as its Vice-President. Max received the “I Dare You” leadership award last year. He is an active member of the Art Club and is this year’s Vice-President. Max has been a participant in both the Talent Show and Mr. CHS where he received the Best Smile award. Max is involved in many service activities at CHS as well as in the community. As a member of the Student Government Association, he acquired the most service points for 2006-2007. In addition last year he volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and Relay for Life.

September Students of the Month
A committee of teachers recently met to choose two seniors as the CHS September Students of the Month. Selection is based on scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship and character. September’s Students of the Month are Jennifer Keller and Casey Landry.
Jennifer is a CHS honor student and is very involved in the CHS publications program. She is currently Covington High’s reporter for the Times-Picayune and is the editor of the Yearbook. In addition, Jennifer is on the staff of The Lion’s Roar and is a Literary Magazine Club member. Last year, Jennifer served as a student member of the CHS uniform committee and spoke before the School Board on that issue. She was a member of both the CHS Softball and Tennis teams.
Casey is also an honor student and a member of the National Honor Society. He serves this year as the NHS Reporter. He was chosen to represent CHS at Louisiana Boys’ State and was elected as a parish officer. Casey has been a member of both the CHS track and soccer teams. He recently completed training so that he can serve as a poll commissioner for elections in St. Tammany Parish. Last spring Casey participated in the Relay for Life and raised the largest amount of money among participants.
