Our Lady Lions softball team is #1 in the district! Their district record is 14-1. Way to go Lions. Make sure you support our Ladies as they make their way through the playoffs.

After an extensive interview process, which involved a committee made up of representatives of the school and the community at large, a new head football coach and a new assistant coach for Covington High School have been selected. The input and assistance from the members of this search committee were invaluable to this process.

There were many excellent candidates who demonstrated vision, leadership, knowledge of the game, and a strong work ethic.  The candidates chosen have extensive experience that, I believe, will take our program in the direction that will help us reach our vision as the premiere athletic program in the State.

After thoughtful consideration which included the recommendations of the committee, our new Head Football Coach is Malter Scobel and our new Assistant Coach is Larry Route. Highlights of the qualifications and backgrounds of each candidate are included. We are ready to move forward and start preparing for spring football.

Malter Scobel

2002 – 2007 - West Jefferson High School -  Defensive Coordinator

1992 – 2001 – Archbishop Shaw High School - Various Coaching duties including Defensive

Coordinator/Linebackers/Kickers/Special Teams

In the six years while at West Jefferson High School where he assisted in coaching, their football teams won two district championships, made the playoffs every year, and had a perfect 10-0 season in 2003. Mr. Scobel graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Southern University of New Orleans in 1997. He played football at Pearl River Community College and at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana.

Larry Route

2003 – Present – Helen Cox High School – Offensive Coordinator

2002 – 2003 – St. Augustine High School – Offensive Line

1997 – 2002 – Edna Karr High School - Assistant Coach/Offensive Line

In each of the schools where he assisted in coaching, the football teams made the playoffs several times. Mr. Route is an alumnus of Covington High, played football for Covington High, and was named Most Inspirational Player in St. Tammany Parish in 1982. He played football for Tulane University and graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree in 1987.
