New Orleans Center for Creative Arts: Audition Season Kick-Off
Saturday, November 7, 10 AM
Open Studio Day & Application Release Party
NOCCA starts their audition season with a special Open Studio Day and Application Release Party! Middle and high school students and parents are encouraged to visit New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA, 2800 Chartres Street, New Orleans-70117) as the Center opens its doors on Saturday, November 7, 10 AM-NOON with a coordinated Open Studio Day. This is a great first step for students who are considering applying and auditioning to NOCCA. No RSVP is required.
At Open Studio Day, families can see first-hand our artist-teachers’ studios and classrooms. Guests can talk directly with NOCCA faculty and students to learn about great audition resources and tips. Application and audition information tables will also be located throughout the campus.
Open Studio Day highlights include: the release of NOCCA’s 2010-11 Student Application, the first available opportunity to register for audition workshops, and drawings for free tickets to performances.
NOCCA offers tuition-free intensive arts training in Creative Writing, Culinary Arts, Dance, Media Arts, Classical Instrumental Music, Jazz, Vocal, Drama, Musical Theatre, Theatre Design and Visual Arts to Louisiana upper-middle and high school students during ½ day, afterschool and summer attendance options. Please visit www.nocca.com for more information.

New Sections on the Website
Ever since we re-designed the website, we've been looking to improve it. We want to share with you all a few new areas of the website that have been added over the past month:
- Student Awards and Recognitions- This is an area that highlights the great work and accomplishments that our students have done. Student awards, recognitions, and our Students of the Month are all featured here.
- Freshmen Center- This is a one-stop area that freshmen will find useful. It discusses requirements for graduation, the career clusters, TOPS, endorsements, and the PRP. We are also developing an area for the Freshmen Academy.
- Senior Center- Like the Freshmen Center, this is a one-stop area that contains information relevant to seniors. Information about the Senior Trip (and a video of last year's trip), important news, and more can be found here.
- Dual-Enrollment Classes- Covington High offers a large variety of dual-enrolled classes, and often students would find out about them after it is too late to enroll. We offer classes that simultaneously give students college credits with the Louisiana Technical College and SLU, and this page lets you know which classes do that. If you want to get college credit early, you definitely need to look into taking some of these courses!
- Project Graduation- We have a page that provides you all with news about Project Graduation, and how you can help out.
- School Video Page- While this one is not new, it has been undergoing a transformation. It now plays all videos in Flash which allows for full-screen viewing and volune control, and also provides you the opportunity to download the videos. We also have the ability to create podcasts, so a few of those may appear in the future!
The website design class is hard at work re-designing individual sections of the CHS site, so keep an eye out for more to come in the near future!
We've also kept up with school pictures! We have pictures from the Volleyball Breast Cancer Awareness Spirit Night, Cheerleader Pictures, Dance Team Pictures, Flag Team Pictures, and the Band this year. |
Chicken Skrips (on Fridays)
Two of the multimedia students made a music video honoring the time-old tradition of having chicken strips on Fridays. They made the music, sang the lyrics, filmed it, edited it, and published it on the website. Check it out! |
Emergency Alert System
The School System is introducing a new communication tool for parents this school year. Parents can now sign up to receive emergency information through text messages, email, or voice messages. To sign up, go to www.stpsb.org and click on the button on the right hand side of the screen that reads, “Sign up for Emergency and News Alerts.” You can also sign up off of the CHS homepage. This system will be used to send out important information if we have weather closures or any type of emergency. We hope all parents will take advantage of this new tool. It’s an easy way to stay in constant contact in the event of any type of emergency situation at the school. |
RSS Feed
Covington High Online now has a RSS Feed available for News updates. It's still in its testing phase, so please report any problems to the webmaster. We hope you enjoy it! |
