Suunrise Breakfast 2019

The sunrise breakfast is a tradition that welcomes freshmen and their parents to Covington High School. This year, the sunrise breakfast is August 1st, 9AM, the same day as freshmen orientation! This is a change from previous years. If you plan to attend, please click on this link and reserve a spot!

Schenck: American Legion Educator

Each year the American Legion recognizes candidates for their Educator of the Year.  The American Legion is split into 8 districts that encompass the state of Louisiana.  

This year, Kenny Schenck, Special Education and Regular Education teacher and Head Wrestling Coach at Covington High School was nominated as the Local American Legion and District 6 American Legion Educator of the year.  District 6 includes school districts of St. Tammany, Livingston, Baron Rouge among other parishes in the state.  Mr. Schenck is now 1 of 8 teachers that is in the running for the American Legion State of Louisiana Educator of the Year.  The State competition winner will be chosen at a later time.

Food Bank Donation

Members of the CHS Wrestling team with members of Student Council helped fill over 140 Easter baskets for families in need in the Covington Area.  All Easter baskets are being donated to the Second Harvest Food bank.

Talented Music Summer Activity

Talented Music students were busy over the summer. First, they performed for the Memorial Day event honoring local veterans. Then they provided music for Mayor Cooper's end-of-term party, followed by a performance for Mayor Johnson's inauguration reception.

Bridget Selected for LYAC

Covington High School student, Bridget, was selected to represent Congressional District 1 on the Louisiana Legislative Youth Advisory Council.  Members of the council are selected from a wide pool of applicants from around the state who display a strong interest in civic involvement. The purpose of LYAC is to facilitate the communication between youth and the legislature, and to give students a unique opportunity to be involved in the workings of state government. The council studies and addresses issues of importance to young people, such as education, community service, employment, strategies to increase youth participation in government, safe environments for youth, substance abuse, underage drinking, and youth health and physical fitness.

PTSA Contest Winners

The results are in from this year's PTSA Safety Poster and Reflections contest, themed "Heroes Around Me". 

State winners are: Elizabeth Lewis, Caleb McLain, Raymond Vo, Alicia Diaz, Hannah Cummings, Ginina Biondini, Hannah Pogue, and Kamryn King

National winner:
Covington HIgh's very own, Hannah Cummings, won at the National level, receiving an Award of Merit, for her photograph:
