STPSB New Teacher Websites: Welcome Page

Click on the word "Welcome" and you should go to the following image (Figure 1, click to enlarge). Note the circled areas and descriptions; you can ignore most everything else for now:

Figure 1

Clicking the purple X in the top left will close this window and take you back to your three pages. You can preview your page at any time with the preview button in the top right.

You will notice there are three boxes in the middle of your screen, a spot for an image and two text areas. They are outlined in green below. Most everything else you can ignore.

Figure 2

To edit one of these boxes, move your mouse over the box and click on the green pencil that appears. Let's start with the Biography Field.

Biography

When you click on the green pencil, you should see a window that looks like the image below (Figure 3, click to enlarge). Note the circled areas and descriptions; you can ignore most everything else for now:

Follow the instructions in the image. You need to type your name, followed by three short paragraphs with your professional information. Examples could include how long you've been teaching, where you graduated from, professional development you've attended, professional awards, etc. You are required to have THREE, but you may be brief. Your name should have the "Title (H1)" style applied to it (shown in Figure 2 above). Click Save at the top to save your work.

Contact Info

Close the Biography window after you saved your work (close using the purple X at the top left, next to the Save button). Move your mouse over the contact box (the area below where your image goes). You should see a green pencil.

When you click on the green pencil, you should see a window that looks like the image below (Figure 4, click to enlarge). Note the circled areas and descriptions; you can ignore most everything else for now:

Figure 4

Follow the instructions in the image. You need to type your content field/what you teach, what grade levels you teach, your e-mail address, and your school's phone number. Highlight your e-mail address and click on the Insert Link icon (shown in Figure 4 above) and you will get a window that appears below (Figure 5):

Figure 5

Click on "Email Address" (1) and re-type your e-mail in the box to the right (2). Click "Insert Link" at the bottom (3) and return to your contact info box.

When all items are entered, and the e-mail link is made, click Save at the top to save your work, then click the purple X at the top to close the window. You will go back to your welcome page.

Your Picture

You are required to have a picture of yourself on the new teacher webpages, there are no exceptions to this rule. If you happen to have one now, this is how to insert your picture. If you do not have one, skip this page and go on to work on another page. If you do have a professional picture, follow the steps below to put it on your page.

Reminder: The picture of yourself should be a professional picture, such as the ones on our IDs or yearbooks. It can not be a goofy picture of you (no costumes, etc). Please have the picture of yourself saved on your computer in an easy-to-find location (desktop perhaps)!

Close the Contact Info window after you saved your work (close using the purple X at the top left, next to the Save button) if you have not already done so. Move your mouse over the image box (the area above your contact info). You should see a green pencil.

When you click on the green pencil, you should see a window appear on the right that looks like the image below (Figure 6, click to enlarge). Note the circled areas and descriptions; you can ignore most everything else for now:

Figure 6 Figure 7

First, load your image by clicking "Browse" (Figure 6) and navigate to where you saved your picture (Figure 7). Load your picture, and click "Continue" (Figure 7) to return to the Image page.

Next, type your name in the "Alternative Text" field.

Third, check the "Keep Image Proportions" box and type "320" where it says Width. You can ignore the Height value.

Finally, click "Save" at the bottom.

It is possible your picture may not resize correctly. I had issues with mine, even after editing my picture several times over. If it looks correct, yay! If not, you may need to edit the width and height more, or even turn to a photo editor. Remember, this website is still brand new, and we may encounter issues with it.

Welcome Page Checklist

If all went well, you should now have on your welcome page:

If you like, you can preview it using the preview icon on the top right (shown in Figure 1 at top of this page). Otherwise, we can move on to create the next page!

If you have at least three pages completed (Welcome, Calendar, and at least one Course Assignment page), you are done creating your website! Next, you need to give your webmaster (for high schools) or your RHT (all other schools) the link to your site!
