2016-2017 Welcome Letter
Dear Students and Parents,
Welcome to Covington High School! As an alumnus of Covington High School and a former teacher, I’ve seen our school community grow and change. While many of our students come from families of alumni, many are new to our school community. Together we all share the same Purpose, Passion and Pride for our school. Students have often heard me speak of their purpose – as students. They are here to learn, grow, and become independent, life-long learners. Our primary purpose as educators is to support and assist them so that they can be successful in high school and beyond. I encourage our students to live and learn with passion! They should commit to their studies, and their interests with passion. And finally, I remind our students that whatever they do, they should do it with pride – a Personal Responsibility in Developing Excellence!
Our school offers numerous opportunities for our students to develop their Purpose, Passion and Pride. Through our academic programs, dual enrollment college courses, Advanced Placement courses, career-technical programs, co-curricular and extra-curricular programs, every student at CHS should be able to find an area to pursue their Purpose, Passion and Pride. I encourage students to get involved in their school. I also encourage parents to get involved. There are many parent/community support organizations that need your help – PTSA, Touchdown Club, Band Boosters, CHS Athletic Association, Diamond Club – to name a few.
I extend my best wishes to all for a great 2016-2017 school year. To our incoming Freshmen, put your best foot forward and start your amazing journey into young adulthood. To our Sophomores and Juniors, continue to demonstrate Pride in everything you do and persist, even when things get more difficult. And finally, to our Seniors, enjoy your final year at your beloved Covington High School, stay focused on your goals, persevere as the struggles get greater, and remember Once a Lion, Always a Lion!
