Caroline Crockett Darby Scholarship

A scholarship has been established in the amount of $1,000 to be awarded to a 2017 graduating Senior.  The name of the scholarship is the Covington High School Class of 1988 Caroline Crockett Darby Memorial Scholarship.  Ms. Crockett-Darby was a member of the CHS Class of 1988 who passed away in the fall of 2012.  CHS ’88 classmates have chosen to honor her memory with this scholarship.  During her time at Covington High, Caroline was a standout athlete with tremendous love and pride for her school and classmates.  After graduation, Caroline was an active member of the Covington community serving numerous charities, most notably Toys for Tots and the Lyon Elementary Mentor Reading Program.  Our hope is to award the scholarship to a Senior that displays the same level of exemplary service to Covington High School and the Covington community.  Applications are available in the guidance office and are due April 13th, 2017.

Discover Delgado Day

Twenty-eight CHS Juniors and Seniors attended "Discover Delgado Day" at Delgado Community College in New Orleans, LA.  The students learned about the various technical and associate degree programs offered at Delgado.  They were able to visit the "Fab Lab," where a representative discussed and gave demonstrations of many of the tools currently used in technology industries - such as a router, 3-D printer, and laser.  They also visited the Chemistry labs on Delgado's campus and learned about the various jobs an associates degree in Chemistry could lead them.  Students also attended two separate "Browsing Sessions" where the were able to speak with representatives from the multiple pathways available at Delgado.  Financial Aid Counselors discussed the cost benefits of the Transfer Degree Program for those students who wish to attend a four year degree, but choose to earn their associate's degree at Delgado before transferring to a public college/university in LA as a junior.  At the end of the day, students enjoyed lunch in Burt's Café in Delgado's Food Court.  Mr. Donald Mathies drove the bus and both he and Mrs. Thames chaperoned.
