LUMCON Field Trip

Over the weekend of November 16th and 17th, Assistant Principal John Boudreaux and Mr. Turner took fifteen CHS Biology II students to the Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium, (LUMCON), in Cocodrie, Louisiana. While there, the students performed several scientific studies including a fish population survey, an elevation survey of the salt marsh, and a test of the ability of oysters to filter marsh water. On Saturday, November 17th the students were taken on a cruise out into Terrebonne Bay on the Research Vessel Acadiana. From the research vessel, the students observed dolphins and captured sea animals with a trawl net. It was a fun weekend experiencing Louisiana’s unique coastal environment and participating in real science at the LUMCON facility.
