English 1...Grade 9- 1 year required. A required course course that concentrates on writing process and the development of composition skills.

English 2...Grade 10- 1 year required. Students receive instruction in the following areas: survey of world literature. paragraph development with literary devices and extended themes. An outside novel must be purchased.

English 2... (honors) Prerequisite: Must have an acceptable grade in English 1 Honors. Grade 10- 1 year. See the course syllabus in the honors course guide. The student must be recommended for this course which goes into greater depth than the average classed. Writing, stressing requirements above Minimum Standards, and reading for comprehension are emphasized.

English 3... Grades 11-12 1- year required. Students receive instruction in the following areas: survey of American Literature, research paper and genre writing. An outside must be purchased.

English 3...(honors) Grade 11  1- year. Prerequisite: Must have an acceptable grade in English 2 Honors. The college bound student must be recommended for this course which goes into greater depth than the average classes. Writing and reading for comprehension and analytical purposes are emphasized. Outside novel must be purchased.

Senior Applications... Grade 12- 1 year required or 1 year of English 4. The course includes training in all phases of communication: listening, reading, speaking, and writing, Attention will be given to vocabulary, punctuation, capitalization, abbreviations and mechanics of written work.

English 4... Grade 12- 1 year required or 1 year of Senior Applications. The course includes works of British and world authors. Also included is the development of an original thesis by research methods. An outside novel must be purchased.

English 4...(honors) Grade 12- 1 year. Prerequisite: Must have maintained an overall 'c' average in English 3 Honors. The college bound student must be recommended for this course which goes into greater depth than the average classes. Writing and reading for comprehension and analytical purposes are emphasized. Outside novels must be purchased.

English 4...(ap) Grade 12- 1 year. Prerequisite: Admission is by application. Areas considered are grade point average, ACT scores, and teacher recommendations. A commitment to academic achievement and an agreement to the time requirements of the course are essential for acceptance. In an advanced placement course in English literature and composition, students are involved in both the study and practice of writing and the study of British and world literature.

English 4/College Eng...Grade 12 - 1 year. Prerequisite Admission requires a minimum of 17 in the English section of the ACT. This course is designed to help students improve their reading, writing, critical thinking, and revision skills. Throughout the semester, students produce several sustained and developed pieces of writing. To receive credit for English 101, students must submit portfolios of writing evaluated as a 'PASS' by  Southeastern Louisiana graders. The students are required to pay a minimum fee for tuition an book rental.

Mythology...Grade 11-12- 1 semester elective. This course is recommended for college-bound students. This course emphasizes the importance of myth in the development of literature. The students will study important figures in Greek, Roman and Norse myths; they will also be acquainted with the Arthurian legend. The study of the influence of the gods on the classical peoples will serve as a focal point for the course.

Library Resources...Grade 10-12 -1 year. Approval by the librarians in needed to enroll. This is a self-directed course where students will develop and expand their skills of locating, evaluating and using information from print and non-print resources. Size of the class is limited and students must have approval.
