Art Department : Frequently Asked Question
This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents. What kind of homework will I see? The art classes are studio-style with the majority of the work completed during class. Homework will be occasional make-up after an excused absence or when there's extra effort and time being put in for a better grade/product...or when there's a test scheduled. What
books will be assigned? The
art department is full of books (from the school, the public
library, and our own collections) but there is no textbook issued
to students. We do however have a classroom set of Art textbooks, which we use for in class assignments. What kind of supplies are needed? Every student should have a folder, plenty of pencils (with erasers!). Art I: All students are asked to bring supplies. There is a $5.00 art fee. All other supplies should be taken care of via instructional funding through the School Board, but donations are always welcome! Art II: A $5.00 art fee as well as periodic requests for recycled and special project materials Art III: A $5.00 art fee as well as periodic requests for recycled and special project materials Art IV: A $5.00 art fee as well as periodic requests for recycled and special project materials Talented
Art: Talented Art students are required to maintain a sketchbook
for notes, homework and developing ideas. How
do you grade artwork? All
assignments are graded on specific criteria given during instruction,
as well as on creative effort, craftsmanship, and application
of design principles. How are the daily grades earned? Students must spend at least 95% of their class time engaged in actively working on their assignment, they must keep their work area clean and be responsible for any tools or materials used. If they are absent they must have an excuse as outlined in school policy. It is the student's responsibility for all make up work. May a student remain in the regular art, music, or theatre class in addition to the talented class? -Yes, and a high school student may earn credit for both May a student be screened and/or evaluated in more than one area of the Talented Arts Program? -Yes May a student participate
in more than one area of the Talented Arts Program at the same time? -Yes, if classified in more than one area and the IEP committee determines
that there is room in the student's schedule and/or it is in the
best interest of the student. How
are Talented Arts Program students served? -K-8
students attend class once or twice a week for a total of 150 minutes
and are taught either at their school site or combined with other
students at a resource center. Art Related Web Links: Adobe software has a great site for artists who like the technology approach. Check out their site for the art gallery, the tutorials. http://studio.adobe.com/ This is a site that I really like. Look at the basic graphic design stuff as well as the page on Web color and their gallery. It's all interactive. http://www.mundidesign.com/home.html This guy is fantastic! He's a computer graphics artist, a writer and a researcher who shares his information in a really readable, usable manner. http://www.glassner.com Additional links that may be of interest: http://witcombe.sbc.edu/ARTHLinks.html Page Modified by Brittany |
