Mr. John Danny Guillory
In 1999, Mr. Guillory became an assistant principal at Covington High School. He acted as assistant principal until 2003 when it was announced that he would take the principal position at Covington High School after Mrs. Cronin retired. Mr. Guillory was 35 years old when he became principal of Covington High School. It was his first time serving as principal at any school. He was quoted saying "I really love being principal. The enthusiasm of the students and the dedication of the teachers and staff make the job all worth while." During his time as principal, Mr. Guillory has faced three very difficult years. His first year as principal stood as a huge challenge because he had to learn so much in one year's time while working on the job. The second was in the 2005-2006 school year when Katrina ravaged the Gulf Coast. Covington High was closed for a few months, and when the students and staffed return in October, they were faced with the daunting task of picking up where they all had left off in August. For some this was more difficult than others, but with the guidance of Mr. Guillory and the staff of Covington High, the school soon returned to its regular course. Then in the 2006 - 2007 school year, Mr. Guillory went on leave when personal issues in his life arose. When he returned that same school year, Mr. Guillory said he learned a great deal about himself and how to become a better person. He does his best to be a role model. "Whether I am or not, I believe, is really left up to the people who might be influenced by me. I, like everyone else, am trying to do the right thing one day at a time," says Mr. Guillory. His personal goals are simply to be the very best person he can be and enjoy life fully. His career goal is to try to do the best job he can in the position that he is in. He plans to continue to be principal and grow in the position.
