Katherine Boesch

Under the leadership of Principal Katherine Boesch, Covington High School began to flourish. Mrs. Boesch's positive attitude toward her work at CHS was certainly carried over to the faculty, staff and student body. Mrs. Boesch was responsible for starting the "Positive Reports to Principal Awards" and the "Gotcha Card."

This was a way for the Covington High School Faculty to reward certain students, in a positive manner, who had done something really good. The "Positive Reports" on certain students were turned in to the Principal and the students were then called into the office, thinking they had done something bad, and were rewarded for doing something good.

The "Gotcha Cards" were given to students who were "caught" doing something good by their teachers. The students got to bring the card home to have it signed by their parents and then return it to a box or bag in the office to have their names drawn each week and a prize received.

Mrs. Boesch was a native of New Orleans. Her move to St. Tammany Parish was a good move. She remembers the continued growth of Covington High School during her years as principal. She said there seemed to be a need for new classrooms each year and the school board continued to move portable classrooms to the CHS site. The student body expanded to nearly 1800 students after the ninth grade was added in 1996. This growth called for four counselors and three assistant principals.
